Mercedes-Benz GLC Lemon Law FAQ
How many repair attempts does my 2020-2024 GLC need before it qualifies as a lemon under California law?
Under the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, if your GLC has been subjected to two or more repair attempts for a defect that could cause death or serious injury, or four or more attempts for any substantial warranty defect, it may qualify. Additionally, if your GLC has been out of service for a cumulative total of 30 or more calendar days for warranty repairs, that also meets the threshold.
My GLC 300's 9G-TRONIC transmission keeps having harsh shifts even after multiple dealer visits. What are my rights?
If your GLC's transmission defect substantially impairs its use, value, or safety and the dealer has been unable to fix it after a reasonable number of attempts, you may be entitled to a refund or replacement under the Song-Beverly Act. Mercedes-Benz is required to either repurchase the vehicle or provide a comparable replacement. You should keep detailed records of every dealer visit, repair order, and the number of days your GLC was in the shop.
Does the California Lemon Law cover my leased GLC, or only purchased vehicles?
The Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act covers both leased and purchased vehicles in California, so your leased GLC is fully protected. If your leased GLC qualifies as a lemon, you may be entitled to a refund of all lease payments made, plus your down payment and other costs. The manufacturer is also responsible for paying your attorney fees if you prevail in a lemon law claim.
My GLC's MBUX infotainment system keeps crashing and the dealer says it's a software issue, not a defect. Can I still file a lemon law claim?
Yes. Under the Song-Beverly Act, a defect does not need to be mechanical to qualify — software malfunctions that substantially impair the use, value, or safety of your GLC are covered. Repeated MBUX failures can affect navigation, backup camera functionality, and vehicle settings, which can constitute a substantial impairment. Document each occurrence and dealer visit, as the pattern of failed repairs strengthens your claim.
